19. Best way to learn a new game?

Is probably still the learn as you go routine. That’s how I done it.

Back when I first discovered a group of fellow students playing AD&D I didn’t know what the heck was going on but I knew there was a lot of imagination. There was no board, no tokens, just paper, pencils, and dice (as a few rule books here and there). I was asked if I wanted to play and I told them I didn’t have any dice. A chair was pulled out and they told me to take a seat and I was handed a player sheet and some dice and viola! The game looked imposing but it’s simple to learn! Someone loaned me a rulebook to look over and it was a learning experience.

So, today I guess the best way to learn is to watch Youtube videos of the game you are interested in. Because, there are tons of them out there.

20. Most challenging and rewarding system you learned?

I have played a ton of games over the years, considering that coming from era when rpgs were sprouting up trying to out do each other with game mechanics and additional little twerks to make their game stand out more: Rolemaster, Space Opera, DC Heroes, and there’s more.

Though the most challenging and rewarding system I learned? Has got to be Anime: Beyond Fantasy. It’s just a few years old and is inspired by Japanese video games such as Final Fantasy and Suikoden. The game features anime/manga styled art, Eastern concepts of honor codes, mysticism and martial arts and combing those with traditional elements of western fantasy as magical and medieval. I guess what is challenging is that the game is a direct translation of the original Spanish rules and a few things got lost in the fold but it is easy to figure out once you get the hanging of it.

The action is percentile base and plays a lot like RoleMaster system and is a very beautiful game with a lot of crazy genres thrown in to make it. It’s a fun game to play and I wouldn’t mind running another campaign with it.

21. Funniest misinterpretation of a rule in your group.

Hmmmm, I can’t think of one at this moment since it mustn’t of be that funny. I know there’s been plenty of misinterpretation of rules at the game table and some of them have led to arguments where dice have be thrown in disgust. But, funniest one eludes me at the moment.
